Answers to Lesson Five:EphesiansChapter FourReview Questions:
Question One: Christ gave gifts to individuals that allowed them to serve as apostles, prophets, evangelists and pastors and teachers (Ephesians 4:11). Why was it important for these gifts to exist in the church? Answer: When the church first began, it did not have the scriptures in written form as a guide to follow for the Christian life. Neither did it have mature Christians who knew all that God wanted them to say and do. Thus Christ supplied the church with men who had gifts in these areas so that, even though the church was in its infancy, it would have mature leaders immediately. However, as the church matured, Paul told both Timothy and Titus to seek out mature individuals to become the leaders of the church (see I Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9). Question Two: What purpose did these gifted men fill in the early church? Answer: These gifts accomplished two purposes (Ephesians 4:12): (1) to equip the saints for the work of ministry and (2) for the building up of the body of Christ (his church).
Question Three: Look at Ephesians 4:17-32 and list at least six or more
comparisons Paul makes between the “old self” and the “new self.” Answer: Here are some possibilities:
Old
Self
New Self
